MAHMOUDA, SUCCESSFULLY OPERATED
In previous communications we informed you about the development of the cures of Mahmouda, the Saharawi girl who had suffered burns on both arms and has been moved to Spain to be treated by the joint action of the SaharaMarathon runners who came to know about her situation during their staying in Smara. Mahmouda is living in the Sahrawi children home of Sant Cugat and has been treated surgically to regain mobility of her arm. She will soon undergo surgery to renew her skin, but in general she’s encouraged to see how her nightmare is coming to an end. From here we appreciate the commendable work of the Friends of the Saharawi people in Sant Cugat, who are managing all assistance to Mahmouda.
SPORTS CHARITY, RUN FOR A CHALLENGE
The SaharaMarathon organization has reached an agreement with Deportistas Solidarios, a sports platform aiming to promote solidarity among its athlete challenges. If you participate in the SaharaMarathon or any other sporting event, you can create your own challenge of solidarity and raise funds for a specific action. Experiences from previous years, as those of Mónica Batan or Manuela Vos, succeeded in raising more than five thousand euros for their respective projects in the Sahara.
DESERT OF COOKERS
Three of the most prestigious Spanish chefs have decided to join the project of the SaharaMarathon. Paco Roncero, Dario Barrio and José Luis Estevan are well-known chefs and good runners. All three will participate to the SaharaMarathon and to various charity projects with the Sahrawi refugees. Sports, cooking and solidarity go together in the SaharaMarathon 2012.
THE SAHARA MARATHON IN A BOOK
Hundreds of stories, thousands of emotions and spectacular images will fill the pages of the book “A footprint in the desert” that we’re putting together and will soon be available for sale. We invite you to participate with your testimony. If you have participated in the SaharaMarathon and want to tell briefly your experience or a particular time, an anecdote, a thought or a good photograph, your contribution is welcome. JOIN NOW OUR SCHOOLS PLAN “PENCILS BY SAHARA”
From the Sahara Project Association we have launched a twinning project between Sahrawi schools and local schools. We ask you to help us spreading this initiative through your contacts, your children’s school or your friends. The plan aims to bring awareness to European children contacting Sahrawi children by post mail and raising funds to improve schools in the camps.
